Plumas County Supervisors Terry Swofford and Lori Simpson are overwhelmingly winning their respective races in Tuesday’s primary election. If the percentages don’t change, the two supervisors would avoid a run-off in November by capturing more than 50 percent of the votes in their districts.
Swofford has 55 percent of the votes in the District 1 race, while Simpson has garnered 63 percent in District 4.
Plumas County Clerk-Recorder Kathy Williams said there are 415 vote-by-mail and 126 provisional ballots remaining to be counted. She said that count should be completed by Wednesday evening.
Swofford and Simpson will be joined on the Board of Supervisors by Greenville resident Kevin Goss who ran unopposed in District 2.
Goss will fill the seat that has been held by longtime Supervisor Robert Meacher.
Meacher, who ran for the State Assembly in District 1, is currently third in that race with 26 percent of the vote.
It appears Meacher won’t hold a public office for the first time in 20 years. The Genesee Democrat trails Republican Rick Bosetti by 1,600 votes.
As of Wednesday morning, Swofford had 464 votes. Bill Powers had 209 votes (25 percent) and Michelle Gault 167 (20 percent).
Simpson had 709 votes, followed by James Huffmon’s 259 (23 percent) and Barry Gossett’s 153 (14 percent).
