Feather River League tennis championships held in Chester

The Feather River League tennis championships were held at Quincy High School and Feather River College last Friday, May 4, with the women at the high school and the men initially at the college until the finals match.

Quincy junior Danny Ryback won the men’s singles title after narrowly defeating Nick Shirk of Plumas Christian School by a score of 9-7 in the championship match.

Senior Lauren Braddick took first place in the women’s singles competition with an 8-4 victory over Hanna of Downieville.

In the men’s doubles, Ryback teamed up with fellow junior Kyle Morgan to win the championship 9-8 in another close match against Shirk and Robert Hopman of Plumas Christian.

The women’s doubles was won 8-3 by Hanna and Fiona of Downieville over Brianne Turner and Cara Robinette of Plumas Christian, who earned second place.

In the mixed doubles, Koby Barker and Braddick secured the championship with an 8-5 victory over Ian Mahaffey and Brittany Mattingly of Chester.

The tennis teams will compete in the Northern Section championships at Foothill High School outside of Redding beginning Thursday, May 10.
