Snow Fest slides into town

There are only nine days left until the Eastern Plumas Winter Snow Fest. The event is jam-packed with activities including the 15th annual Rotary Snowmobile Poker Run at Lake Davis and the historic longboard races in Johnsville.

Beginning Friday, Feb. 18, at Grizzly Creek Ranch, the Queen Scholarship Pageant will be held at 6 p.m. and includes dinner. Ticket prices are $10.  Sleigh rides will be offered starting at 7 p.m. and the evening will be wrapped up with a moonlight snowmobile ride at 8 p.m. at J&J’s Grizzly Store.

Court throws out county suit against Cunan

A court has thrown out Plumas County’s lawsuit against former District Attorney Jeff Cunan. Visiting Judge of the Superior Court Ersel Edwards ruled, among other things, that the county did not provide sufficient facts to establish personal liability on Cunan’s part.

Edwards said the court "does not see any reasonable possibility that County could amend its complaint … to cure the identified defects.”

Portola City audits well; financial cushion shrinks

At the Jan. 26 regular meeting, the Portola City Council heard a report of the 2009-10 audit and found it good.

Gallina Certified Public Accountants have been auditing the city’s affairs for many years, pointing out flaws and potential flaws along the way. Finally, they are left with little to say except, “an unqualified opinion, as in prior years.”
