Pacific Crest Trail Association: the brains and brawn behind the PCT

  Back in 1968, Congress passed the National Trails System Act and designated the Pacific Crest Trail and Appalachian Trail as the first two national scenic trails.

  The PCT Association’s Northern Sierra regional representative, Justin Kooyman, said the intent of Congress was to secure long-distance trails with superior scenery for users to enjoy.

 

Neighbors want private property cleaned up

  A Chilcoot man said he shot 14 pack rats because of a neighbor’s trash-heaped property, and offered to clean up the mess himself if the county would provide a Dumpster.

  But he probably won’t have to do that.

  

Annual Children’s Fair set for this Saturday in Quincy

  The Plumas Children’s Council invites everyone to share in the fun of the 26th annual Children’s Fair. The fair will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds in Quincy.

  The fair offers families the opportunity to spend the day together doing fun, free activities.

  

Water to become a standing agenda item

  With the Department of Water Resources renegotiating with its 27 state water contractors, the topic will be included routinely on the Board of Supervisors agenda.

  The Plumas County Flood Control District is one of the water contractors.

  

Principal resigns and relocates

  After a 14-year stint as principal to both Chester Elementary School and Chester High School, beloved principal Scott Cory has resigned, effective June 30.

  With much deliberation, Cory said he accepted a position as the superintendent for Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District — the same district from which Cory graduated high school.
