GLRID finds no 10-inch line needed: just open the valves

For the past dozen years, it was believed that the Delleker industrial park outside Portola had insufficient fire flows to support any increased development in the area. There was no help for it. The area needed a 10-inch water main — so people thought.

The Central Plumas Recreation and Park District has scheduled three public planning meetings for the future development of recent additions to Pioneer Park. The purpose of the planning meetings is to solicit and accept site recreational use ideas and general community input regarding the future development and use of the district’s new park properties located in East Quincy, according to recreation and park district general manager Jim Boland.

The Plumas County Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC) unanimously approved a letter strongly recommending against the state building on one of the proposed new courthouse sites at a meeting Tuesday, Feb. 22.

The commission received correspondence from the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) indicating the top three sites being considered: the Crescent site, practically right across Highway 70 from Gansner Field airport; the Waters site, located behind Chevron and adjacent to Dellinger Pond; and the Dame Shirley Plaza site.

Community Development Commission (CDC) staff delivered gloomy reports about the future of the agency’s federal funding at the group’s last two meetings.

The bad news began to pile up when Executive Director David Keller told the commission the House of Representatives finally submitted its bill for reductions, five months into the federal fiscal year.

Trustees for Feather River College voted unanimously Friday, March 4, to reduce the school’s academic faculty by the equivalent of 2.5 positions. An additional position, in early childhood education (ECE), was saved after impassioned testimony from students, teachers, parents and staff during public comment.

The cuts include half-time equivalents in men’s basketball, women’s basketball and physical education, and a full-time equivalent in administrative office management.
