Plumas Bank first-quarter bank earnings increase

  Plumas Bancorp, a bank holding company and the parent company of Plumas Bank, announced its 2013 first quarter earnings of $616,000, an increase of 175 percent over the $224,000 it reported during the first quarter of 2012.

  Have you ever wondered how birds decide where to build their nests and raise their families? What qualities do you think female birds prefer in a mate? Do bird parents and chicks talk to each other, and if so what are they saying?

  Dr. Matthew Johnson has investigated these types of questions in several bird species, and he will be presenting his research on shorebird behavior and conservation at the upcoming Plumas Audubon Society meeting May 8, 7 p.m. at the Plumas County library.

  

Firefighters gain the upper hand on the Panther Fire

The 6,864 acre Panther Fire is now 60% contained in Tehama County. The map also shows the 75 acre Cedar Fire burning a few miles south of Butte Meadows in Butte County.

Hunter safety class offered during May in Greenville

  Hunter safety classes are being offered at the Masonic Hall in Greenville, free of charge.

  Registration will be available at the Masonic Hall on May 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. All ages are welcome to participate.

  

Quincy Fire Department busy with second fire

A second fire broke out in East Quincy across from the Lariat Lodge on May 1 around 1:45 p.m. While the fire at the Sierra Pacific Industries’ mill raged on, a mobile home was totally engulfed in smoke and flames. Firefighters scrambled to douse the flames at the East Quincy site. Nearby passersby said they saw flames shoot 15 feet high from the home of Steve Sasser.  Photo by Jesse Buus
