District cabinet to take over school operations

Delaine Fragnoli
4/26/2012

After more than three hours in closed session Wednesday night, April 25, chairman Chris Russell reported that the school board had voted unanimously to delegate day-to-day school district operations to the administrative cabinet once a separation agreement with Superintendent Glenn Harris is finalized and until the position is filled.

Asked if that meant the separation agreement with Harris was not a done deal, Russell said the agreement had not been finalized. The cabinet will report directly to Russell.

Trustees were also scheduled to meet in their capacity as the Plumas County Office of Education board. Other than public comment, only one item appeared on the agenda: public employment of Superintendent Harris. Responding to public concern about the legality of the item -- as county superintendent Harris is not an employee, but an elected official -- trustee Bret Cook moved to remove the item from the agenda. The motion passed unanimously, leaving the board with no further business to conduct.

Does this mean the Board will run the Office of Education also?
Something in this smells like a bad idea.

This is the same group of people who all signed off on the Administrations proposal to close three schools in our district....they actually signed the document. I hope that with Harris gone they will be able to speak freely and help repair the school district.

This is a joke right? The trustees didn't know they couldn't discuss the Plumas county office of Ed in closed session?
Makes one wonder how many other things they are clueless about if the don't know the basic rules of closed session.

Delaine ask for a response from PCTA about the resignation of Harris. I'm sorry it has taken awhile. I can't locate her email so I could fax it to her office.
