Gansner Airport to be closed for maintenance

Quincy Gansner Airport will be closed to air traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Tuesday, May 29 through Friday, June 1.

County Airports Director Joe Wilson said the runway will be closed for a pavement maintenance project.

Wilson said the “asphalt joint sealing” work would help preserve the condition of the pavement during the extreme freeze and thaw cycles of the mountain climate.

Although the airport will be closed during the middle of the day, Wilson said it would still be open to air traffic from 5 p.m. until 7 a.m. That will allow early morning and evening operations to continue during the project.

The project is 97 percent funded through the Federal Aviation Administration and the State Division of Aeronautics.

Wilson said people who have questions about the closure can contact the Plumas County Department of Airports at 530-283-6299. They can also email Wilson at joewilson@countyofplumas.com.
