College trustees split on faculty layoffs

In a dramatic 2-2 vote, Feather River College trustees failed to pass a resolution that would have sent layoff notices to six full-time faculty members. The fifth trustee was absent from the Thursday, March 4, meeting.

The board was scheduled to revisit the issue at a special meeting Tuesday, March 9.

Family physician Dr. Nick Yphantides will present a free lecture at the Quincy Town Hall Theatre next Thursday, March 18, at 7 p.m.

Author of the popular book “My Big Fat Greek Diet,” Dr. Nick jokes that despite his accomplished career, he was “board certified” in medical hypocrisy, as 10 years ago he weighed in at close to 500 pounds.

Streetlights topic tonight

    Indian Valley Community Services District directors will meet tonight, March 10, not last week as reported, to talk about a proposal to shut off several streetlights in Taylorsville and Greenville.

    Vinton’s Cowboy Poetry show is the eastern Plumas event that keeps going and going and going. Now in its 24th year, the show featuring a taste of the Old West will return March 19 – 20 to the Sierra Valley Grange on Highway 70.

Western author subject of Women's History Month presentation

    In honor of Women’s History Month, Delaine Fragnoli, managing editor of Feather Publishing Company’s four Plumas County newspapers, will give a presentation Wednesday, March 31, on one of America’s most prolific and highly accomplished Western genre authors.
