Edward Ilmars Mitrevics, 74, passed away on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014.Ed was born in Riga, Latvia, on March 21, 1940, the only son of Augusts and Lidijia Mitrevics.In his early years, Ed lived in Latvia and Germany.In January of 1950, Ed, his parents and his older sister Velta came to the United States through Ellis Island in New York.They lived in Connecticut after arriving from Europe.On April 12, 1957, Ed became a United States citizen.
In October 1958, Ed joined the U.S. Marines and moved to San Diego.While with the Marines, he traveled extensively overseas and was stationed in both Okinawa, Japan, and in the Philippines. After serving in the Marines, he attended Valley College and worked in a bank at night.While in college, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department on Oct. 29, 1962.
During this time period, Ed befriended Donald Dix Jr.While Ed was visiting Don’s home and reading the Western Horseman magazine, Audrey Dix, Don’s sister, came home and was drawn to the handsome man reading her favorite magazine.Ed and Audrey married on May 17, 1963, in Las Vegas, Nevada.The couple lived in the Los Angeles area until they built their dream home in Portola in 1979.Ed commuted between Los Angeles and Portola until he retired from the LAPD on January 9, 1983.After “retirement,” he started Alpine Fire Protection until he sold the business around 1997.
Ed enjoyed golf, his friends and family, and loved every moment of living in the beautiful surroundings of Plumas County.Ed will truly be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Audrey Mitrevics; his daughter, Tiffany Mitrevics O’Neil and her husband Craig O’Neil; his three grandchildren, Kelli, Kate and Matthew; and many close friends and family.
