Portola City Council reviews draft medical marijuana dispensary ordinance

At the Feb. 2 meeting of the Portola City Council, City Attorney Steve Gross introduced a draft of a five-page ordinance to ban medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits. After consideration, Ordinance No. 339 will be back on the Feb. 23 agenda for approval and become effective March 23.

 

Supervisors approve additional fair funding

Fair manager John Steffanic appeared before the Board of Supervisors Tuesday, Feb. 15, to explain circumstances leading up to his request for $77,445 from the county’s contingency funds.

Most of the money, $72,445, is to meet payroll through the end of the fiscal year. Steffanic said the remaining balance, $5,000, was to ensure the fair had funds to pay its electric bill.

 

Hopman, Cassou and Nero honored at QFD installation ceremony

The late Bill Hopman was named Fireman of the Year for the Quincy Volunteer Fire Department.

The presentation was made Saturday night, Feb. 12, at the annual installation-of-officers banquet at the fire hall.

 

Rate increase coming: City of Portola discusses how much

At the first of two rate study presentations to the Portola City Council to discuss increases in city water and sewer rates, Mayor Pro Tem Juliana Mark asked, “Why now? Right now, people are having a hard time of it, so why are we talking about rate increases now?”
