The Chester Lady Volcanoes managed to stave off a 25-point third-quarter push by Portola at home last week to beat the Tigers on a 67-57 final score — and managed to gain a much-needed win just one game before the start of Five-Star League action.
Although Chester led Portola 23-16 going into the locker room at halftime, the Tigers rallied behind junior Alli Ramelli’s 11-point run and a pair of free throws from fellow junior Sophia Selvaggio to take a 33-32 lead in the game. For the next 11 points scored by either team it was neck and neck until the Vols were able to finally pull away in the fourth period for the win.
After the game, Chester junior guard Reanna Trujillo said the win was vastly important for more than one reason.
