Volleyball playoff update

In the second round of volleyball playoffs Tuesday, Portola narrowly defeated East Nicolaus in five games, while Greenville and Chester were each eliminated.

Portola, seeded third in Division V, travels to Los Molinos tonight for a semifinal match. The winner will play for the section title Saturday in Red Bluff.

FRC Volleyballers finish season undefeated

With two final wins against Siskiyous and Lassen last week, the Feather River College volleyball team completed its regular season with a 10-0 record and won the Golden Valley Conference championship.

“It’s a very big deal,” said FRC coach Sarah Ritchie. “After taking second place three years straight, it was our time. Going undefeated makes it even more worthwhile. This is the first time ever.”

Trojans advance in playoffs

With a 53-21 victory over East Nicolaus in the first round of the Division IV playoffs last Friday night, the Quincy Trojans are looking exceptionally strong going into this Friday’s semifinal game against Modoc.

Quincy, seeded second, will host the third-seeded Modoc Braves, who are coming off a 38-12 playoff victory against Chester. Quincy and Modoc each sport 9-2 records.

Fish and Fungi

A week ago we enjoyed a beautiful and warm Saturday.  This time of year each day like that could be the last such day for many months.

There was only one thing for me to do.  Load up the dog and head out fishing.

There is very little time left before stream fishing season closes for the year so I decided to skip the hot action offered by so many of our local lakes right now, and I headed for the Middle Fork of the Feather River.

Quincy Trojans defeat Portola to take league title

The Quincy High School football team completed its regular season schedule with a big exclamation point last Friday night, when the Trojans defeated Portola 38-0.Quincy_sportsx_5c_COLOR

With the win, Quincy took first place in the Mid-Valley League and received the number two seed in the Division IV playoffs.

The Trojans host seventh-seeded East Nicolaus this Friday night.
