Plumas County supervisors have weighed in on the California Department of Fish and Game’s draft environmental review of its suction dredge mining program. The last day to comment on the impact report was May 10. The supervisors approved a letter to DFG at their May 3 meeting.
DFG released its draft subsequent environmental impact report Feb. 28. The study concluded that continuing the current moratorium on suction dredge mining was the best thing for the environment.
“I’ve done a lot of legwork this morning in talking with the principal and Superintendent Glenn Harris,” parent Thor Schaefer said May 12.

In the context of his complaint he relayed that he had observed three people handing out Bibles to kids, including his daughter, as they exited Chester High School.
Chester Branch Library will be closed May 16-18 due to a broken heater. The library is expected to re-open on Thursday, May 19 at noon.
Plumas County’s only state park, Plumas-Eureka State Park (PESP), is on the list of 70 parks to be closed for the next two fiscal years, California State Parks announced today.
The PESP closure is unlikely to have much of an effect this summer because a scheduled hazardous materials cleanup meant most facilities would be closed anyway, said Matt Green, acting district superintendent for the park agency’s Sierra District.
Plumas County Sheriff Greg Hagwood was the keynote speaker at the Almanor Tea Party meeting May 4 at the Chester Memorial Hall.
During this presentation he took his message beyond access to the forests to the balance of power between the people and the federal government.
