Public meeting on proposed Quincy courthouse Nov. 1
A public meeting Tuesday, Nov. 1, will provide an update on the current status of the new Quincy courthouse project and potential sites. At the meeting, the public and other interested parties will have an opportunity to hear about the status of the statewide courthouse construction program in light of the state’s budget, progress on site selection for the new Quincy courthouse, and planned next steps.

Plumas, Sierra and Lassen County residents feel M4.7 earthquake
5:00 p.m. update
The M4.7 earthquake was followed by at least nine small aftershocks throughout Thursday morning, ranging in size from M1.1 to M2.5, with the last one occuring at 8:24 a.m.

Chester man arrested for luring Susanville child via text messages
After a month-long investigation, the Susanville Police Department (SPD) with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested 32-year-old Chester resident Larry Ronald Gorbet Jr. Oct. 20.

County to furlough employees
With union negotiations at an impasse, financially struggling Plumas County has decided to furlough its employees.
At its meeting Tuesday, Oct. 18, the county’s Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to adopt furloughs for all county employees, with the exception of those in the sheriff’s office.

Draft of County General Plan available for review
The Plumas County Planning Department has made the Draft General Plan, dated Oct. 14, with changes incorporated, available to the public via the county website (countyofplumas.com) as a news flash or under Planning Services. The Planning Department can also provide the draft upon request by email, CD or hard copy (limited quantities). There is a counter copy available for viewing at Planning & Building Services, 555 Main St. in Quincy; plus, a copy is in the process of being sent to each of the county libraries.

Free flu shot clinics under way
It’s flu season and the Plumas County Public Health Agency reminds folks it is time to protect themselves and those they love against the flu. A plentiful supply of the vaccine is available. Drive-through vaccination clinics are already under way. The Portola/Beckwourth clinic was held Monday, Oct. 24, and the Greenville clinic was held Tuesday, Oct. 25.
