Cultural connections grant keeps Plumas in performances

Plumas Arts has been able to keep Plumas County rich in culturally diverse performing arts thanks to funding from the James Irvine Foundation. In 2008 Plumas Arts was awarded a two-year Creative Connections grant that has not only kept the shows coming, but also brought admission prices to all-time lows.
 

Summer holds promise of second annual Momboosa Music Festival

"With the momentum and branding that was built from the first Momboosa Music Festival in 2009, we want to build a 2010 event to further generate community revenue throughout the summer," Jess Horning told members of the Chester-Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce Feb. 17.
 

Low snow pushes Sled Dog Races to Camp 5 location

California Gold Mush Lake Davis Sled Dog and Snowshoe Races are still on for Feb. 26-28, but after surveying the racecourse, organizers have moved the staging area to Camp 5 at a slightly higher elevation.

The race staging area has been moved to the backup location at the Camp 5 turnoff at Lake Davis, accessed by West Street in Portola, until further notice. Fillipini Flat area has melted out and trails from that area are in poor shape.

The chancellor's office wants to ensure state money is spent in alignment with the priorities laid out by the government.
 

House fire leaves woman, baby homeless

A house fire last week, inadvertently caused by a property owner, has left a Blairsden women and her 14-month-old daughter homeless.

No injures were reported; however, the duplex unit located just off Bonta Street suffered significant damages.
