Recall petition for Portola mayor deemed “sufficient”

Portola City Clerk Leslie Tigan certified the petition to recall Mayor Dan Wilson last Tuesday.

The petition was received by the city Oct. 13 with a raw count of 364 signatures from proponent Jeanne Rowden-Dansby; 269 signatures from voters registered as living in Portola are required to initiate a special recall election.

EQSD board addresses new director’s potential conflicts

The East Quincy Services District’s board of directors said it wants to make sure a newly elected member doesn’t have a conflict of interest.

Mike Green, who ousted incumbent Steve Grant in the Nov. 8 election, lives in the East Quincy district. However, he works as a water/wastewater operator for the Quincy Community Services District.

Maidu to launch trial projects in Humbug Valley

Maidu Summit Consortium efforts to regain ancestral land in Humbug Valley made national news in a Tuesday, Nov. 15, Wall Street Journal article by Justin Scheck.

Summit members have been vying with the California Department of Fish and Game over the land, both claiming to want it for the best public uses, including recreation.
