Ranchers fit to be tied over watermaster fees

The mounting frustration level of area ranchers is almost tangible, like smoke from a fire.

They and other water rights holders are in a fix with the increased state watermaster fees, which for most will rise by more than 400 percent.

The fees will be on the property tax bills this December.

Stop and Remember event this Sunday

On Sunday, Sept. 11, fire departments nationwide will be sounding sirens and ringing fire bells in honor of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Plumas County fire departments will be gathering to participate in this memorial and sounding the alarm at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

Second Portola fire stopped

Portola has been plagued with fires these past two weeks, fires set by humans, whether intentionally or by accident.   The old Western Pacific Hospital burned to the ground last Wednesday at 1 a.m. and the following morning, at about the same time, another fire was spotted in a small grove of five or six trees below Feather River Middle School and along the fence at the electrical substation on Gulling Street.
