Bradley Appeal Denied

Background: Willard Bradley was sentenced to 10 years in prison in early 2009 after being convicted on a charge of voluntary manslaughter with an enhancement for using a gun in the commission of a felony. A jury found Bradley, then 22, guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death May 17, 2007, of Dominik Wolfe at the Valley Heights apartments in Quincy.

Fatal snowmobile accident in Lakes Basin

On Sunday, April 3, at about 4:21 p.m. the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office was advised by Plumas County Sheriff’s Office that a snowmobile accident had occurred near the Sierra/Plumas county line.    The location was approximately 40 feet from the entrance to the Day Use Area of Gold Lake, near the town of Sierra City. The rider had apparently rolled the snowmobile down a slight ledge and then became trapped beneath the snowmobile.

EPHC to cut costs in response to poor financials in February and March

Eastern Plumas Health Care’s (EPHC) March board meeting was a roller coaster of good and bad news. The poor financial news was met head on, and in other areas the board learned of several positive and innovative ways in which EPHC is seeking to reach out to the community.

Free community forestry webinar series to be offered in April

The University of California and the Northern California Society of American Foresters will host a series of online presentations and field trips for people who are passionate about their local forests. The Community Forest Webinar Series runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Pacific Daylight Saving Time, on April 7, 13, 20 and 27.

Field trips have been scheduled for May 7 to the Usal Forest near Fort Bragg, May 15 in Weaverville, May 28 to the Arcata Forest in Arcata and June 25 to Tahoe-Donner Forest near Truckee.
