The Portola Season of Lights and tree lighting will be this Friday, Dec. 3 (not Dec. 11, as was reported last week), with festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m.
We apologize for the confusion in the dates, but the fun events remain correct. Santa will arrive in his sleigh at 5:30 p.m., during the sparkling light parade down Commercial Street, which has become bigger and better. After that, Santa will preside at the lighting of the town Christmas tree.
The Central Plumas Recreation and Park District is in the last week for Youth Basketball sign-ups. Players in 3rd through 8th grades are encouraged to sign up for the league this week, before it is too late.
The award winning Chester Community Chorus will present three winter concerts in the Lake Almanor Basin during the first weekend in December.
Titled “Many Sounds of Christmas,” the concert will include, according to director Elsie Wesley, “a wide selection of holiday music featuring full harmonies, foreign languages, the humorous, the exciting and the enjoyable.”
District Attorney Jeff Cunan filed a defamation claim Nov. 24 with Plumas County against County Administrative Officer Jack Ingstad for comments he made to Feather Publishing about the county’s recent lawsuit against Cunan. The comments appeared in Feather Publishing’s story about the lawsuit (Nov. 10, 2010).
County Administrative Officer Jack Ingstad said Nov. 29 that Richard Turner has decided not to return as Veterans Service Officer for Plumas County.
