Fair manager reports attendance down, enthusiasm up

Due to a lack of quorum, the fair board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 25, did not officially take place. However, since they were there anyway, the four directors present engaged in a general discussion and report on the fair with manager John Steffanic.

Several streetlights were still on in Indian Valley and Canyon Dam, and charges were still appearing on bills more than four months after the shut-off order was given.

Plumas Unified School District Superintendent Glenn Harris announced at the July board meeting that C. Roy Carmichael Elementary School in Portola is on the state's list of 1,000 open enrollment schools.

Last minute voters dropping off Measure B ballots

Kathy Williams, Plumas County clerk/recorder, reports that voters are bringing in last minute ballots for the Measure B hospital tax cap election this morning at a rate of about two every 10 minutes. That's unprecedented, like most everything about this election.

Measure B turnout tops 60 percent

Kathy Williams, Plumas County clerk/recorder, reported as of mid-afternoon Monday, voter turnout for the Measure B ballot had reached 61 percent.

Of the 4,481 ballots issued, 2,713 have been returned - more than in the Measure A vote. A total of 2,500 ballots were cast in that election.
