In the midst of canceled games in Plumas County, the Greenville Indians boys’ basketball team (5-3) was able to pop out a couple wins before the storm hit.

  Greenville hosted the Los Molinos Bulldogs (4-6) on Dec. 18, 2012, for a close 50-46 win. The previous day the Indians hosted Champion Christian (0-6) and dominated with a 76-30 victory.

  Greenville’s defense was on top of its game against Los Molinos. The Indians prevented the Bulldogs from scoring a single point in the first quarter. In turn, Greenville sank the ball for seven points.

  Los Molinos came back in the second quarter, however. The Bulldogs out-powered Greenville with offensive rebounds to control the ball for the majority of the quarter. Los Molinos sank 23 points to Greenville’s 12 to head into the half with a 23-19 lead.

  Coming out of the half, the Bulldogs continued their streak and outscored the Indians 15-12 to lead 38-31 at the start of the fourth quarter.

  Determined to win, the Indians’ defense players gave it their all in the fourth quarter to allow only eight points on Los Molinos’ side. Greenville’s offense did its part to score 19 points and win the game for the Indians 50-46.

  “The key to this win was defense down the stretch,” wrote Greenville’s coach, Russ Crouch. “The Indians held their opponent to just eight points in the last period while scoring 19. This was a great team win!”

  Tony Rogers was named player of the game for Greenville. Rogers scored 13 points and nabbed 13 rebounds during the game. In the fourth quarter Rogers scored seven points to lead the Indians to their third victory in a row.

  Walker Meyers did especially well with 15 points, including two three-pointers. Meyers also contributed 11 rebounds. Cooper Kingdon made nine points.

  Greenville’s game against Champion Christian was a complete stomp. The Indians had control of the ball from tip-off to the ending buzzer.

  Greenville utilized the match-up to try out some of the players that don’t always hit the court. Every player on Greenville’s 13-player roster not only played, but scored.

  Greenville outplayed Champion Christian on both sides of the court to lead at the half 41-15. Greenville continued its rampage in the second half to outscore Champion Christian 35-15 and end the game 76-30.

  Andrew Fairbanks played extremely well, making all nine shots he attempted. Fairbanks added two rebounds and four steals for the Indians.

  “(Fairbanks) continues to play good defense night in, night out,” wrote Crouch. “This game was a rout with every player scoring at least two points. The team scored a season high (this game).”

  Meyers led the team in points with 12 points from two two-pointers, two three-pointers and two free throws. Meyers also nabbed five rebounds and two steals.

  The Indians travel to Providence on Jan. 8. The next game at home for the Indians is Jan. 11 against Herlong.
