The board of directors for the Mountain Meadows Conservancy announced the loss of Steve Robinson, executive director of the conservancy, who passed away following a prolonged illness.
In a press release issued Feb. 21, board members wrote, “Steve’s 13 years of volunteerism as executive director of the conservancy is a massive loss to both the conservancy and to the community.”
Following the meeting of the board Feb. 21, Nils Lunder was selected as the interim executive director. A Westwood native, Lunder has been the project coordinator for the conservancy’s watershed project and has been a longtime supporter of the conservancy.
The board said, “We are confident in Nils’ ability to lead the conservancy through this time of transition.”
A Steve Robinson Memorial Fund has been set up at Plumas Bank to honor his contributions and to further the efforts of the conservancy. Donations are greatly appreciated to support the conservancy’s continued work into the future. Donations to the fund can also be mailed to P.O. Box 40, Westwood, CA 96137.
The nonprofit organization’s mission is: “to conserve and enhance the natural beauty and environmental health of the Mountain Meadows watershed; protect its significant Mountain Maidu burial and cultural sites; and provide recreation and public access for generations to come.”
