The Eastern Plumas Chamber of Commerce and Feather River College will be teaming up to bring a first-rate business conference to the county.

  The second annual Plumas Business Summit is a chance to help educate and develop small-business owners in the county.

  The event will be held March 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Nakoma Golf Course in Clio.

  The summit, which will be “Capturing the Culture of Business through Action,” will offer an array of educational and networking opportunities for business owners and entrepreneurs.

  There will be keynote speakers, including Barbara A. Vohryzek, the deputy of director for small business at the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, who will speak on the power of small businesses in California. Also, co-owner of the 20 Mile House Karen Steele will be speaking on being an entrepreneur and a mom.

  According to Audrey Ellis, chamber director, the college and the chamber of commerce joined forces last year to try to bring a business conference to the county.

  She said the reality is that many business owners have to travel and cover a lot of expenses in order to experience a conference like this. However, with the help of Nakoma, the organizations can bring a conference right to our doorstep.

  The summit will feature break-out sessions, a capital readiness panel consisting of lenders ready to answer any questions, and many other networking opportunities.

  Breakfast and lunch will be served for all guests including soft drinks throughout the day. Nakoma is also offering special rates for participants including 20 percent off the Villas at Nakoma, and $5 massages at the spa.

  Members of Feather River College’s Enactus program will present on their recent trip to Uganda in the afternoon, and the break-out sessions will occur throughout the day.

  The sessions will pertain to all styles of business strategies including social media, education on the Board of Equalization and a showcase of chamber of commerce amenities.

  There will also be opportunities for one-on-one meetings with lenders of the Capital Readiness Panel and Richard Scully of Chamber Nation.

  The summit will introduce the first-ever county level California business plan competition as well, where younger members of the community can compete for a chance to win $5,000 at the state level for their exceptional business plan ideas.

  The chamber of commerce invites all entrepreneurs and business owners to sign up for the event; there is a 100-person cap however, so be sure to claim a ticket.

  “I’m very excited for this. We have such a great team between the college and the chamber and Nakoma,” said Ellis. “It is a positive thing happening in our area.”
