Susan Bryner and Dawn Gray, co-owners of Books & Beyond in Chester, have added yet a new meaning to “beyond.” The store is now an authorized UPS shipping outlet. “As we approach our 10-year anniversary, we see the need to expand the type of services that we offer our local community. So, to our traditional retail inventory, art gallery and dry-cleaning services we have added shipping, copy and print services and public computer access,” Susan said.

Miriam Marquez, owner of the Plumas Cafe in the Plumas Pines Shopping Center in Quincy, has extended the dinner hours. The breakfast and lunch restaurant now serves until 8 p.m. Monday – Friday and until 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Miriam adds that she will have her beer and wine license soon.

Carol and Brad at the Chester Old Town Café held a “Are you smarter than a meteorologist?” contest last week. Suzie LaGroue, of Chester, was the closest to predicting what the weather, temperature and winds would be on March 20, the first day of spring, winning lunch for two.
Realtor joins sierra destination

She recently completed the required training to obtain the certified distressed properties expert designation. Kristy Brown, owner of Main Street Salon in downtown Taylorsville, is pleased to welcome Michelle Greco to her salon. Michelle, a longtime resident of Plumas County, graduated from DeLoux Beauty College in Reno and has nine years of experience as a cosmetologist. She does hair styling, manicures and pedicures.

Matt Maumoynier and Carrie Warren are now associated with the Lake Almanor Fitness Center in Chester as personal fitness trainers. Dave Alcorn is available as a free-weight strength training coach and will be happy to share his expertise with LAFC members. Krista Norris, a professional line dance instructor, offers group line dancing on Thursday evenings. She will alternate with their current instructors, Carol Morgenroth and Karyn Merriman.

Bucks Lake Lodge owners Rebecca Guereque and Louis, Louie and Luz Gutierrez are celebrating their sixth anniversary. Hats off to the families for having the fortitude to rebuild the historic lodge — which, in case you haven’t heard, is now open — after the tragic fire in 2010 took the lodge, their home and all their belongings.
