Six-year-old Gavin Beane received a $3,000 souvenir check from the Lake Almanor Snowmobile Club on June 30.
The club’s Feb. 16 Poker Run was dedicated to Beane, who suffers from two forms of epilepsy. The real check, which came from a portion of the proceeds collected during this year’s run, was donated to the National Seizure Disorder Foundation on Beane’s behalf. It will be used to cover some of the expenses associated with his service dog.
Local businesses and club members not only volunteered their time to support the fundraising efforts, many also donated money and items that went into a silent auction and giveaway. This effort contributed to the large sum collected on Beane’s behalf.
The club also acknowledged the support of the community, and those in attendance for their purchase of giveaway tickets and silent auction bids.
Beane was so excited at the time of presentation that he lugged his souvenir check all over Foxwood Pavilion, only setting it down long enough to play in the playground.
