Microsurfacing/paving project begins in Quincy

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 2, along with contractor Hat Creek Construction & Materials Inc., from Burney, began grinding and paving operations on a 9-mile stretch of Highway 70/89 on Monday, Sept. 16.

The major portion of this project is expected to take about three weeks. In an effort to accommodate local business owners, work in the downtown corridor will take place primarily at night, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers will be prohibited from parking on the street during that time, but can park nearby and still access local businesses.

Work west of town and in East Quincy will be performed during daylight hours. Motorists can expect about 10-minute delays.

Caltrans has set up a hotline at 225-3452. It can be accessed 24 hours a day and will provide updates about current projects, including the Quincy Microsurfacing Project. More information is also available at caltrans2.info.

Caltrans reminds the traveling public to move over if safe or slow down when they see Caltrans vehicles flashing warning lights along the side of the highway, and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
