Plumas Arts is extremely pleased to announce that it has been able to obtain two world-class performances for the Town Hall Theatre this November, says Director Roxanne Valladao.

Winner of numerous best female blues artist awards — including the Koko Taylor Award in 2013 — Ruthie Foster performs live in concert Saturday, Nov. 9. Foster has also been nominated for a Grammy Award.

With a naturally expressive voice that has drawn comparisons to greats like Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and Bonnie Raitt, the Texas-based singer and songwriter mixes a wide palette of American song forms — from gospel and blues to jazz, folk and soul — into her music, and her live performances are powerfully transfiguring.

On Friday, Nov. 22, Ballet Folklorico Quetzalli of Vera Cruz, Mexico, takes the stage. Mariachis and trumpets fill the air as the colorful dresses of the folklorico tradition swirl to the music filling the auditorium. This performance will be a visual fiesta of the culture of old Mexico straight from Xalapa, Veracruz.

Celebrating the upcoming holiday season in “Carnaval” style, the 18-member troupe mixes exquisite costumes and perfectly choreographed movements with authentic south-of-the-border music. Olé!

Both performances begin at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30.

Ticket prices for both events are subsidized by the James Irvine Foundation and the California Arts Council.

Admission to these shows is $20 with presale discounts of $15 for Plumas Arts members. Both performances may sell out; advance ticket sale purchase is advised. Presale discounts and online ticket sales end at 5 p.m. the day before the event.

“People often ask how we are able to book such amazing performances,” says Valladao. “Over the years we have developed relationships with numerous booking agents. We work with them on keeping Plumas County in mind when artists that we think will be of interest to our local audience are moving through the areas around us. Sometimes we get lucky — just like we did with these two performances.”
