Placer Mining Proposal
_The Forest Service, Plumas National Forest, Beckwourth Ranger District, is preparing a Decision Memo for approving a Plan of Operations for the Squirrel Creek and Squirrel Creek Extension #1 placer mining claims. The Plan of Operations would allow claimant, Charles Watson, to conduct exploratory placer mining activities on National Forest System lands. The claimant's proposal involves excavation of 20 - 30 test trenches with an excavator to evaluate placer deposits for mineral content. Material would be processed through a grizzly, trommel and gold concentrating equipment as it is removed.  Water used in the operation would be pumped from Squirrel Creek.  The location of the proposed exploration is north of Johnsville, off of NFS Road 23N08; T22N, R11E, Sections 2 & 3, MDBM.  The proposed action description and other information are available for review at the Mt. Hough Ranger District. This comment period is being provided pursuant to the March 19, 2012, order issued by the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of California in Case No. CV F11-679LJO DLB. Only those who provide comments during this comment period will be eligible to appeal the decision pursuant to 36 CFR part 215 regulations. In addition, each individual or representative from each organization submitting comments must either sign the comments or verify identity upon request.
