Margaret "Peggy" Guess, 85
Geraldine "Nona" LaSarte, 93

Margaret "Peggy" Guess, 85, died Aug. 24, 2004. Peggy was born Feb. 25, 1919, in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. She was a resident of Quincy for 30 years, prior to moving to Auburn, where she lived for the past 24 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Wendell Guess. Peggy is survived by her children: Tom Guess of Lincoln, Mike Guess of Auburn, Dan Guess of Susanville, Barbara Camm of Magalia, and Debbie Lake of Wheatland; brother, John Flagg of Sparta, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Aug. 30, 2004, at Chapel of the Hills in Auburn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her honor be made to the charities of the donors' choice.

Geraldine "Nona" LaSarte, 93, a longtime resident of Auburn, died on Aug. 19, 2004. Nona was born on July 8, 1911, in Johnsville. She grew up in Johnsville and enjoyed skiing on longboard skis, attending family gatherings and playing the accordian. In the following years she taught many immigrants in the area the United States Constitution to prepare them for their naturalization. After marrying Felix LaSarte she and her husband owned and operated restaurants in Plumas County for 25 years. This included the "Log Cabin" in Portola from 1946-1954. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Auburn. She loved to watch football, especially the San Francisco 49ers and University of Notre Dame, as well as cooking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix. Nona is survived by her daughters, Betty Maccoun of Roseville, Nancy Ray of Quincy, and Jackie Yoacham of Quincy; her son, Ben LaSarte of Cameron Park; her sisters, Elvera Kaelin of Oroville and Louise Prewitt of Auburn; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Aug. 24, 2004, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Oroville, followed by burial at the Oroville Catholic Cemetery.
