Golf Results for the week of 7/14/2010

7/14/2010 - Whitehawk Ranch

Ladies Golf Club

It was a day of "O.N.E.S." at Whitehawk last Tuesday, which means that only the holes starting with one of those four letters, or half the holes, counted toward the game and each lady only received 50% of her handicap on those holes.

Virginia Luhring certainly helped herself and her partner Pamela Burke to their winning net 74. She shot a birdie on the par three-hole number eleven which gave her a net double eagle. Marcia Zeigler and Jill Zumwalt were team #2 with a net 75 and this was Mrs. Zumwalt's first day out with the Whitehawk ladies too. And Diane Romig and Denise Stein came in third with a net 76.

As for match play results, round 1 is now completed: Patty McNamara won her match against Lois LeGuennec; Denise Stein won her match against Marcia Zeigler; Cynthia Faulk won her match against Christy Randall and Lynn Smith won her match against Della Miller. The ladies must play both round 2 and round 3 of match play before the end of this month.

LACC Women's Golf

The first Tuesday of the month started July off with a game called “Modified Almanor Amigas” followed by our monthly luncheon meeting at Dianna’s restaurant in the clubhouse. Although the game sounded complicated, it was really just a lot of easy-going team fun. So now I’m going to try to explain it.

All four team members teed off on each hole. Then the women whose tee shots were on the right partnered up and the women whose tee shots were on the left partnered for each hole. The best drives were chosen, and the ladies alternated shots until the ball was holed out. Both scores for each pair of ladies were added together for a “very large” team score! There were two flights.

In the first flight, the team of Linda Allen, Joan D’Angelo, Marie Phillips, and Kathy Roseler came in first place with a score of 197. Toddy Cutler, Darlene Donaldson, Pat Drake, and Madeleine Protsman came in second with a score of 204.

In the second flight, the team of Trudy Leete, Collette Prentke, Karen Schmidt, and Martha Vlahos came in first place with a score of 208. Lynn Boltini, Nancy Foote, Jean Rolls, and Marcia Spooner came in second with a score of 210.

All-in-all it was a great day for camaraderie both on the golf course and at the luncheon that followed.

Mt. Huff Golf Scores

It was another beautiful morning and a great round of golf was played at the Mt. Huff Wednesday Morning Scramble on July 7.

The first place winning team members were Barbara Quam and Jerry Quam.

In second place were the team members Don Sheffield, Jim Bryant, Mike Chelotti and Bob McElman.

The chip-in was won by Bob McElman and Closest to the Pin was won by John Hackett.

Since June 29th was the last Tuesday in June, the Plumas Pines Women's Club played their monthly Captain's Cup. Winners of low gross and low net over the field each month will compete in the final round which takes place in September. Winning Low Gross over the field was Annie Meyer.

There were two chip-ins, one made by Nancy Bartlett and one made by Joni Gerberts.

Tuesday, July 6 was the beginning of a 3-day Handicap Tournament. Those not competing in this 3-day event followed the field playing the same format.

In the first flight, Janie Grossman won Low Gross, Nancy Bartlett won 1st Low Net, and Jan Talbott won 2nd Low Net. In the second flight, Lorraine Cornish won Low Gross, Jennifer Zumbro won 1st Low Net, and Diane Trainor won 2nd Low Net. Annie Meyer and Janet Holladay both scored chip ins.

Next week, competitors will play Monday and Tuesday and net scores will be combined to determine the winner. Stay tuned.

LACC Men's Golf Association

On July 7 the LACC Men’s Golf Association played a game of bramble. A bramble starts off just like a scramble where each team member tees off. After the best drive has been selected, each player plays his own ball, stroke-play style, until he has holed out, producing four individual scores. The team score Wednesday was the two low nets on each hole.

In the first flight, the teams of John Leete, Al Marquart, Larry Prentke and Jim Stillman tied with Barry Donaldson, Jim Drake, Tars Petri and Dan Van Elderen for first place with a score of 107. John DeJong, Ev Eaton, Ron Simonini, and Dan Weagant tied Greg Bice, Jim Craig, John Griswold and Nate Ryan for third with a 109.

The second flight was won outright by Bob DeValk, Bob Favel, John Hancock, and a blind draw with a 106 score. In second place, with a 108 was Chuck Johnson, Jack Penick, Merle Reese, and Bob Roseler. Mike Davis, Rick King, Dennis Porter, and Dick Soper were our third place winners at 109.

After 14 weeks into the season, Rick King is our current championship points leader with 3,594 points followed closely by Phil Parish (3,573) and John Leete (3,516).

Congratulations to everyone.
