9/15/2010 - It was a good weekend of football for the local teams of Plumas County, as the college and four local high schools are all coming off wins.

It's still early in the season, but this could be a solid year for Plumas County's five football teams, as each squad has ample talent and the potential to put together a winning record.

Feather River College

In their season opener at West Hills in Coalinga last Saturday, the Golden Eagles kicked a 17-yard field goal at the end of the game to win 36-33.

It was the third field goal of the game for FRC kicker Frank Hernandez.

FRC built a 30-7 lead through the first thee quarters, but then West Hills rallied in the final period and tied the game 33-33 with three minutes remaining.

FRC quarterback Tyler Pine completed 26 of 32 passes for 337 yards and four touchdowns.



Chester

The Volcanoes racked up 244 yards rushing in their 26-12 victory at Fall River last Friday.

Chester led 7-0 at halftime and 20-0 at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Aaron McCulloch led the ground game with 82 yards on 14 carries. Chris Brown gained 69 yards on seven carries, and Ryan Bereznak totaled 57 yards on nine carries.

Brown carried in two touchdowns, while Bereznak and Jake Simms each ran in one touchdown. Curtis Stevens kicked through two PATs.



Greenville

After trailing Happy Camp 14-6 at halftime, the Greenville Indians came back in the second half for a 34-26 victory at home. No statistics were available.



Portola

Although the Tigers had a bye week last Friday, they are coming off a 30-0 victory in their most recent game against Los Molinos Sept. 3.

Portola rushed for three touchdowns in the first quarter, two of which were scored by Kyle Heskett, who led the ground game with 116 yards on 18 carries. Heskett also nabbed two interceptions on defense.

Quarterback Piero Selvaggio completed five of eight passes for 83 yards.

Mario Rodriguez caught four passes for 75 yards, kicked three PATs and one field goal.

Evan Hungerford and Oscar Romero ran in Portola's other two touchdowns.



Quincy

The Trojans rolled over North Tahoe in a lopsided away game that ended with eight Quincy touchdowns and a 62-0 score last Saturday.

Alex Easley led Quincy with 123 yards rushing on eight carries and claimed three touchdowns for the Trojans.

Devonte Smith, who rushed three times for 83 yards, scored two touchdowns for Quincy.

Cameron Diaz Deleon, Cal Blanton and Lane Labbe each added one touchdown.

Diaz Deleon completed 5-of-8 passes for 55 yards, and Blanton was Quincy's leading receiver with three catches for 33 yards.

Henry Kroeker kicked through four PATs on six attempts.
