|These are the stories we are working on for this week's newspaper:|
At approximately 8 PM last night the city experienced the rupture of a 12-inch water transmission line at Beckwourth and Loyalton streets. This is a main water line to the City's water storage tanks and the South side of the City. City crew have been working on the repair throughout the night and
this morning had to order additional pipe material from Western Supply in Reno.
As of 10:45 the main has been repaired and water service has been restored. State officials are sending a State prepared written notification (attachment) that we will go door-to-door and deliver advising residents that the water is safe to drink, however there may be a chlorine smell and/or taste to the water and that the chlorine was used as a precaution for their personal safety. This
notification will be delivered to all residences and businesses North of Highway 70. City crews will attempt to minimize the chlorine issue by opening fire hydrants in the area and running the first large volumes of swater through the hydrants.
