80 YEARS AGO....1930

We at the Plumas National-Bulletin office have received the first three issues of the Indian Valley Record published by James R. Little. They are getting out a very attractive newspaper and we wish them success. Knowing as we do of something of this importance to a community of a live newspaper, we congratulate Greenville upon securing the new enterprise.

Grant Youngs, assistant Plumas Unified School District superintendent, was named PUSD superintendent to replace Redge Lichty who resigned from that position July 1. Bob Schoensee, principal of Portola High School was then named assistant supervisor.

30 YEARS AGO......1980

The Grand Opening of the new Plumas Bank will be held Saturday in Quincy. Capitalized at more than $1.2 million, the new locally owned and managed bank will be open for business Monday.

10 YEARS AGO.....2000

Michael Franklin was this week sentenced to a life sentence without the possibility of parole in the 1996 murder of his wife at Bucks Lake in a snowmobile incident. The State of California spent approximately $1 million in legal fees to convict Franklin, with Plumas County spending $200,000--the most expensive case in Plumas County history.

The United States Forest Service will suspend all timber sale activity and the postponement of all commercial timber sales, bid openings and awards.
