   These are the stories we are working on for this week's newspaper:
  • Quick fix: A plumbing problem is forcing the Plumas Unified School District to move its headquarters to the former probation building.
  • Lesser charges: A former Chester Public Utility District general manager pleaded guilty to reduced charges last month in connection with unauthorized use of a district credit card at a Reno strip club.

Highway 70 slide cleared; Feather River Canyon now open

Work continues removing slide material from Highway 70. Currently there is one way controlled traffic with a 20 minute delay.

CalTrans reports that work on clearing the slide is completed and that Highway 70 is now open.

3/2/2011 - 11:20 a.m. Update

The first of two rockslides, located approximately 4 miles west of the Greenville Wye has been cleared.
The second slide, near Rich Bar has been cleared enough to allow for one way controlled traffic.

3/2/2011 - 7:45 a.m.

The California Highway patrol has just announced that two large rock slides are blocking both lanes of Highway 70 blocked in the Feather River Canyon. The first slide is 2.6 miles east of Rich Bar and the second is 4 miles west of the Greenville Wye.

The slide near Rich Bar is reported to be ten feet high across both lanes.

CalTrans is closing the highway at the Greenville Wye on the east side and Big Bend Road on the west side.

This information will be updated as soon as more is known.
