Helicopter logging will disrupt traffic

Feather Publishing
4/12/2011

Those who travel into Plumas National Forest via Lights Creek Road in Indian Valley may experience delays for a few weeks. Helicopter logging began Wednesday, April 6, on the Cairn MP Fire Salvage Sale, part of the area burned in the Moonlight Wildfire. There will be traffic control on County Road 213, the Lights Creek Road, due to logs being flown overhead.

Logging truck traffic began Monday, April 11, with 50 or more loads expected each day. Most of the logs will be delivered to Collins Pines in Chester. The logs being flown out of the burn area are the larger ones, which remain salvageable longer than smaller ones, according to Public Information Officer LeeAnne Schramel.

Pew Forest Products won the contract bid, and Erickson Air Crane out of Central Point, Ore. is doing the flying.
