Graeagle Meadows Golf
The golf season at Graeagle Meadows Golf Course has finally started.
It’s been a long, cold, snowy, wet winter but true life is starting to emerge in the community of Graeagle. The birds are flying, the squirrels are climbing, the deer are grazing, the coyotes are roaming and real golfers (both men and women) are surfacing from their winter shelters to reunite at Graeagle Meadows Golf Course.
The golf course has acquired a couple of additional water holes for the beginning of the season and two greens are reduced in size until their winter warming blankets are kicked off. All who are out on the course — which is to say 95 percent of the residence of Graeagle — agree that the course is in marvelous condition and is a true pleasure to be enjoyed.
All the men and women golfers would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the entire staff of Graeagle Meadows Golf Course for getting the course in such good condition so early in the season.
This year’s season started off with two really fun events: the annual men’s and women’s Cha Cha Cha Tournament and dinner with the winning foursome of Pat and Norm Nichols, Jacquie McMaster and Tom Balestri in the Blue Flight and Cheryl and Jim Brennan along with Pat and Terry Grew in the Red Flight.
Then there was the first Monday’s Madness Tournament, which will be a men’s and women’s weekly event of some wild mix of players in some last minute format secretly selected by the tournament leaders. This unknown will add new excitement to this year’s activities.
So, for all the men and women golfers in the Graeagle area who want to have a great golf season, put on your shoes, grab your golf clubs and come join the groups and gather in on the good times.
Women’s Golf Club
Finally, after enduring one of the longest winters in a long time, the Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club had their first playday and first Ace of Aces competition for this season May 5, a beautiful warm day. Priscilla Piper won for low gross. There was a tie for low net score between Susan Wiese and Annie Fischer. Susie Wiese won in a card-off.
Winner for low gross in the first flight was Priscilla Piper. First low net was won by Susan Wiese with Dink Rife taking second place. Third place low net was won by Carol Miller. In the second flight JoAnn Lake won for low gross. First place low net was won by Annie Fischer.
There was a tie for second place low net between Maureen Ford and Esther Rimbault.
Alaine Flynn and Jay Fisher had chip-ins. Everyone was happy to be out on the course again.
We are back. Mt Huff held its first Thursday Night Scramble after several attempts that failed due to high water. It was a gorgeous evening on a beautiful course. We had seven teams anxious to get back in the Thursday Night Routine.
Jordan Townsend slammed it for the longest drive and Jeff Smith placed the ball closest to the pin for his big win. The team of Jimmy LaPlante, Newbie Ben Grant, Ron Ridge and Jim Bryant took first place at three under. We had a three-way tie for second, David Smuts, Nolan Bussey and Jeff Smith had a chip-off with Jeff’s team of himself, Bobby Ball and Don Guess taking the second place title.
A fun time was had by all; we would love to see you here. The course truly is in good shape. Ralph will be having his Wednesday morning scrambles starting Wednesday, May 11, check-in at 8:30 a.m. Also, on May 15, we will be having a tournament. Call with any questions: 284-6204.
