After the first round of the boys' and girls' Division V basketball playoffs Feb. 21-22, three Plumas County teams advanced to the quarterfinals, while two local teams were eliminated.
The Quincy and Chester boys' teams and the Portola girls' team each won their opening playoff matches at home.
In the boys' division, Quincy beat Colusa 63-34 and Chester defeated Hamilton 69-47. On the girls' side, Portola eliminated Chester 58-44. The Portola boys' team, seeded eighth, lost at home to ninth-seeded Mt. Shasta.
The playoffs continue tonight and tomorrow, Feb. 23-24. Tonight, the Portola girls host Weed, beginning at 7 p.m. Tomorrow, the Quincy boys, seeded fourth, are at home against fifth seeded Tulelake, beginning at 6 p.m. The Chester boys, seeded seventh, travel to take on second-seeded Fall River.
