School district requested officers’ presence at Greenville meeting

The presence of four Plumas County sheriff’s deputies at Wednesday’s school board meeting in Greenville didn’t go unnoticed.

In response to public queries, Sheriff Greg Hagwood said the deputies attended the meeting at the request of the Plumas Unified School District administration.

“It might have appeared like an unusually large presence (of deputies),” Hagwood said. “Normally we would have sent two or three deputies. But we had double coverage on Wednesday, and one of the officers was a trainee.”

Hagwood said the district asked for the officers’ presence because of the tense nature of recent board discussions regarding school closures.

The sheriff said he was pleased to report there were no problems or incidents at the meeting.

A call to Superintendent Glenn Harris seeking comment had not been returned as of Thursday morning.

I am saddened that the school district feels they need law enforcement at their meetings. True we are upset, but who do they think we are? You don't see us sporting a Hate Truck at our schools and they want our kids to eventually come to Quincy to attend school?

I wonder if ol' Hagwood was packing the Glock 45 that was given to him by a member of the Almanor Tea Party? Is it legal for state departments to take gifts from the public? I know it's not for federal agencies.
