Golf Results for the week of 7/3/2012

George Friedrichs Charity Golf Tournament

The ninth annual George Friedrichs Charity Golf Tournament was played on a cold and windy June 23. The golfers all had a great time and the Chimney Fund and the Chester High Sports Program, this year the boys and girls basketball teams, were the big winners. The event raised more than $1,875 for each of the charities. The continued support of all the local communities is the reason that we are able to do so well. Over the last nine years we have raised more than $14,000 for each of the charities.

This year’s golf winners were:

Closest to the pin on hole No. 6 – men, Rick Bouge; women, Karen Treanor

Accuracy on hole No. 9 – men, Lynn Thompson; women, Linda Layland

Distance on hole No. 9 – men, Bob Johnson; women, Jo Knudsen

First place team: Gary Haynes, Gary Gosney, Dave Shawles

Second place team: Rick Bogue, J.D. Sayer, Paul Lemm, Mike McDonald

Third place team: Frank Neth, Lynn Thompson, Bob Brockway, Nate Brockway

Fourth place team: George Friedrichs, Dan Dunkly, Bob Webber, Devin Sheehy

Thank you again to all the local businesses, friends and family who helped to make this such a great event. A special thank you to Dave Delay, golf course superintendent, and his crew for giving us such a beautiful course to play on.

Whitehawk Ladies Golf Club

On Tuesday, June 26, the Whitehawk Ladies Golf Club had a crazy but fun game called “The Eliminator.” Teams of four players had to use one player’s score on the first hole. Then that player’s ball could not be used for the three subsequent holes. After each hole a different player’s score in the foursome was chosen. By the time the team reached its fourth hole, there was only one eligible player’s ball left. The pressure on that last player was definitely a source of a little anxiety for that player and lots of laughs for the team! It reminded some of us of getting picked first or last for a sports team on the grammar school play yard or trying not to get “dinged” during sorority rush!

The winning team consisted of Patty McNamara, Arline Simpson and Marcia Zeigler with their fourth being a “blind draw.”

The biggest news of the day was a “chip-in” by our captain, Denise Stein, on the first hole. Denise counted out $45 from the “pot” that had grown over the past few weeks, as the rest of us watched with envy! Ladies, there’s always next time to try and get a chip-in and win! Congratulations, Denise!

The weather continues to be perfect and the Whitehawk Ranch Golf Course is in great shape. Happy golfing.

Mt. Huff Wednesday Morning Scramble

Our chilly weather warmed up a bit for the Mt. Huff Wednesday Morning Scramble. The golfers made an excellent turnout for the sun and the fun of friendly competition!

The first place scoring team members were Zack Russell, Gary Metzdorf and Dick Grace.

In second place was the team of Ted Trafton, Greg Steven and Ralph Cote.

A tie for closest to the pin brought Al Brubacker and Dick Grace to the title, while closest to the pin award was taken by Mike Ingle.

As there will be no scramble July 4, Mt. Huff scores will return July 11. Hope everyone has a great holiday.

Lake Almanor West Women’s Golf Club

This week we played a Home to Home playday with Lake Almanor Country Club Women’s 18 Hole group. Everyone had a great time, and enjoyed a lovely lunch.

Next year will be our turn to host this great event.

On June 28 we played a team game called “Poker Run.” It is a enjoyable game.

The team that placed first consisted of Julia Azevedo, Judy Cooper, Charlene Ferguson and Linda Kluge.

Also two of our members had chip-ins: Julia Azevedo on No. 13, and Cheryl Springfield on No. 18.

On July 5, we are not playing group play, so we will start in July the following Thursday. Hope everyone has a great and safe Fourth of July.

Bailey Creek Women’s Club

The Bailey Creek Women’s Club was not discouraged by the cool “June-uary” weather. Playing each Wednesday, the club completed its first month of play June 27, with many of the snowbirds returning.

On June 20, the club welcomed four guests, Cheryl Viera, Linda Johnson, Karen Giorgi and Patte Quinn. Playing O-N-E-S, Patte placed first in the A flight, followed by Wynnetta Regli (second). In the B flight placing were Joan Eychner (first), Jenni Cesarin (second), Joyce Gronroos (third), with Caroly Soper and Karen Giorgi tying for fourth. Caroly chipped in on No. 15, and Joan birdied No. 4.

On July 21, playing a “Back Nine” game, the results were: Joyce Gronroos (first), Donna White (second) and Carolyn Soper (third). Dianna Pallari had a birdie.

The club will meet again July 11. Ladies who would like to join us on Guest Day, July 18, should contact Jenni Cesarin at 284-7469 or rcesarin@frontiernet.net.

Mt. Huff Thursday Night Scramble

Mt. Huff had another very successful Thursday Night Scramble. A slight breeze kept the golfers cool and collected. We had a great turnout.

The team of Dick Grace, Casey Kingdon and Loren Lindner came in first at 5 under and Greg Stevens, Bob McIlroy and Bill McRoberts came in second at 3 under. Everybody else at least came in.

Longest drive went to Greg Stevens and Bob McIlroy hit it closest to the pin.

The scramble is truly a lot of fun; all abilities are invited. Check-in is at 4:30 p.m. and we tee off at 5. The evenings, the view and the course are hard to beat.

We will be having a two-man scramble July 15. Call for more information. Breakfast and lunch are being served. The new phone number is 284-6300. Give us a call and come and have a great time.
