Governor declares state of emergency

Feather Publishing
8/23/2012
Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. issued an emergency proclamation for Plumas, Shasta and Tehama Counties following recent wildfires that have destroyed residences, threatened thousands of homes and other structures and caused evacuations and road closures.

The Ponderosa Fire burning in Tehama and Shasta Counties was 60 percent contained as of Thursday morning as more than 2,400 firefighters were on the fire lines.  69 structures have been destroyed.

The Chips Fire in Plumas County has been burning since July 29.  The fire is over 63,000 acres and just 40 percent contained.
