plumas visitors guide in the works

It may only be January, but it’s already time to once again begin focusing our attention to tourism this summer in Plumas County and the impact it has on our local economy.

The pundits once again predict that tourists will be opting for more day trips, weekend jaunts and full-blown vacations closer to home, which will bring a much needed and important infusion of dollars into our local economy.

With that in mind, we are already working on our annual Plumas County Visitors Guide (actually it is a work in progress all year long). Local business owners and service providers should continue to consider this colorful and informative publication a “must buy” annual advertising investment.

Business owners asked for tourism ideas

Feather Publishing

With the possible closure of the Plumas County Visitors Bureau this month due to lack of county funding, tourism industry partners are looking for help. One Chester area lodging owner has designed a survey to collect data and ideas to continue to improve tourism in Plumas County.

This survey was intended for businesses in Plumas County, but the public is also invited to take part in this brief survey if they have ideas to share, and they are encouraged to forward the survey to business owners and managers, or any of the other 1,400 people in the county whose jobs may be impacted by tourism, including clerks, maids, cooks, waitstaff, etc.

The survey can be accessed by clicking here.

Results will be presented to the Board of Supervisors in January 2012.

The goal of the survey is to collect enough data and ideas to continue to improve tourism in Plumas County.

update on bucks lake lodge

Jan. 20, 2012, marks the two-year anniversary of the fire that totally destroyed one of Plumas County’s historic landmarks, Bucks Lake Lodge.

However, we are happy to report that after dealing with mounds of insurance and Forest Service paperwork and finally getting all the necessary approvals, owners Rebecca Guereque and Louis, Louie and Luz Gutierrez have made a lot of progress rebuilding the lodge that was originally opened in 1929. Rebecca said that thanks to Keith Barnett of Precision Builders, who coordinated and used all local subcontractors, the exterior walls, siding, windows and roof are all finished, allowing them to comfortably work on the interior this winter. She anticipates reopening the bar, restaurant and store early this summer. In the meantime, they do have their cabin rentals available through the winter. The phone number is the same: 283-2262.
