the $100 challenge!
With the holidays just around the corner and given the state of our economy, this special shop at home message — or challenge, if you will — from a year ago certainly warrants repeating.
If each of our newspaper readers spent just $100 each shopping at home this holiday season, it would pump over $1.8 million into the Plumas County economy — and that’s based on a conservative average of just two readers per newspaper sold each week. And it’s worth noting: For every $100 spent with a local business, $68 is returned to the community.
free oil changes for seniors
Once again, in the true spirit of Thanksgiving, The Twenty Garage in Chester is honoring Senior Citizens (62 and older) and their caretakers by giving them (limited to the first 20) a free oil change. It happens on Nov. 20, so be sure you are the first in line. Ken Anthony’s shop is behind the Kopper Kettle restaurant and provides complete automotive service for cars and light trucks, both foreign and domestic.

As always, Barbara and Lisa said their annual Holiday Open House was a huge success. Visitors enjoyed delicious appetizers and hot mulled cider. Three of them — Inez Robbins and Sandy Condon from Quincy and Diane Long from Chester — were especially happy, each winning a $50 gift certificate.
wildwood seniors fundraiser
Gamboni’s Peninsula Grill is hosting “The Artists Of Wildwood” fundraiser Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Owner John Gamboni said there will be a silent auction featuring the work of several local artists, along with a table of assorted homemade crafts offered for sale that were created by some of the talented Wildwood residents. Donations of $10 will be accepted, which includes appetizers. Proceeds will benefit the Wildwood senior activities department.
Francis joins Chester Dentist
Dr. Eric Dunbar is pleased to announce that Vicki Francis, RDA, has joined his dental team. Vicki is excited to share her expertise with her new teammates and said she looks forward to the challenge of learning new aspects of dentistry such as orthodontics. Vicki has lived in the Chester area for 30 years and has seven years experience working in the dental field. Dr. Dunbar has been practicing for 19 years and is closing in on his fifth year at their Almanor location. The office provides most aspects of dental care — from children's dentistry to dentures and implants.
DEMBOSZ: 30 YEARS WITH BANK
Rose Dembosz is celebrating 30 years of service to Plumas Bank. She was their first employee, joining the bank’s charter organizational team in October, 1980 as the operations officer. Her career has taken her from assistant vice president senior operations officer in 1988 to executive vice president, manager of the bank operations group in 2007. She currently oversees several departments including operations, information technology, human resources, and the customer resource center.
