perfect friday getaway
The extremely talented and entertaining Kepple Family will be performing live this Friday night, Aug. 10, then again Aug. 24 and Sept. 7, at Big Springs Gardens. Every Friday beginning at 5 p.m., they feature live music during a happy hour and hors d’oeuvres reception, followed by a lavish barbecue served buffet style with chicken, baby back ribs and prime rib and all the sides at 6 p.m. Now, a little about the property: Owner Don Phillips has created a tranquil mountain garden that offers visitors 30 acres of unparalleled natural and planted beauty woven with strolling and hiking trails — all within the breathtaking beauty of the Sierra Buttes. Having visited for the first time last week, we now understand why Sierra Heritage magazine calls it the “Monet of the Mountains.” The facility also serves buffet lunches Wednesday through Saturday and a Sunday buffet brunch. Reservations are required for all meals: 862-1333. You’ll find Big Springs Gardens on Highway 49 between Basset Station (Gold Lake Road intersection) and Sierra City.
