75 YEARS AGO..........1937
A storm which wreaked millions of dollars worth of damage throughout northern California and Plumas County has closed the Feather River Highway with damage to the highway estimated to be a quarter of a million dollars. Chester was the hardest hit of the towns in Plumas County as the bridge at the entrance to Chester from the west was washed out. County bridges at Johnsville and Grays Flat were also washed out.
75 YEARS AGO..........1937
The Greenville Fire Department was called out Tuesday morning when a fire started at the Pastime Club from a defective flue. Damage was slight.
E.E. Struble was arrested in a Quincy restaurant Tuesday night on suspicion of counterfeiting. He is alleged to have passed a number of bogus 50 cents pieces. Struble was sitting at the counter reading the Feather River Bulletin that he had purchased with the funny money when Plumas County Sheriff Braden arrested him.

The $20,000 War Memorial building in Portola built by Plumas County will be dedicated Saturday night.
Striping of the Feather River Highway is expected to be completed tonight. The work was started at Keddie yesterday and by nightfall the crew had reached a point west of Belden approximately half the distance in the Plumas County State Highway maintenance district. The other half is the jurisdiction of Butte County.

The heaviest rain in the 12 day storm that has skyrocketed precipitation in Plumas County to a point more than double the average of the last 40 years fell in a five hour period Tuesday morning. The rain brought this years total to 16.04 inches with the normal on average for the last 40 years registering at 7.90 inches. Streams are running bank full and the Feather River canyon was closed for two hours Friday with an earth slide.
