    Values for Thanksgiving festivities as advertised by local grocery stores: mincemeat 24 cents a jar, butter 38 cents a pound, celery 9 cents a bunch, fresh cranberries 9 cents a pound, pomegranates 3 cents each, apple cider 57 cents a gallon, canned cranberry sauce 16 cents a can, black olives 14 cents a can, mayonnaise 43 cents a quart.

75 YEARS AGO..........1937

    Sierra Valley Grange celebrated its sixth birthday at its meeting Wednesday night. The Sierra Valley Grange was organized November 11, 1931.

    A building used as a temporary forest fire lookout on Argentine Rock at the head of Squirrel Creek was strewn over the mountainside by a high wind last week.

75 YEARS AGO.........1937

    A huge boulder loosened by heavy rains was struck by an eastbound Western Pacific train near Pulga in the Feather River Canyon this morning causing the train to plunge over a 450 foot embankment into the Feather River. The engineer and a railroad fireman were killed.

    Official abandonment of the Indian Valley Railroad from Paxton to Crescent Mills has been authorized by the Interstate Commerce Department.

75 YEARS AGO.........1937

    Train service, interrupted two weeks ago by heavy rain, washed out sections of the Western Pacific maintenance track on the Feather River highway, was resumed Sunday night. Passenger trains are running late, however, due to slow tracks and unusually heavy transfers at each station.

75 YEARS AGO..........1937 

A free rodeo will be held at the Langhorst Ranch in Sloat Sunday and will include steer, cow and calf roping, greased pig catchng, a baseball game, frog races and tug 'o war. In addition there will be ducks, geese and chickens to shoot for. Bring your own hunting guns and ammunition.
