75 YEARS AGO.....1939

The mid-winter drought in Plumas County came to an end when the heaviest snow storm of the year broke Tuesday night. The snow is very wet and is packing down to depths of up to 23 inches in some parts of Plumas County. Power has been interrupted and schools have closed.

50 YEARS AGO.....1964

The Plumas County Board of Supervisors has adopted a resolution urging the approval of a Senate bill which would exempt small California counties such as Plumas County from the requirement to join a junior college district. Otherwise, Plumas County would see a sharp rise in taxes.

75 YEARS AGO.....1939

The flotation mill at the Standart Mine in Greenville completed last year at a cost of $75,000 was destroyed by fire early Monday morning. The mine is located two miles west of Greenville and some 32 men employed there will be out of work by the disaster.

Six residents of Plumas County became American citizens in a hearing conducted by Plumas County Superior Court Judge J.O. Moncur.

No new cases of scarlet fever were reported in Plumas County this week and the Plumas County Health Department authorities believe that the epidemic that victimized 13 people in the county last week has subsided.

Telephone service for the residents of the Sloat-Cromberg area will be provided this summer.

Construction of a line to carry electricity to Meadow Valley was started today by PG&E and will bring in a construction crew of 35 or more men.

A mantel of snow ranging from one foot in Belden to six feet in Johnsville brought joy to Plumas County winter sports fans this week. Farmers, miners and foresters also welcomed the storm too, knowing water is being stored for summer needs.
