75 YEARS AGO..............1938

    Walt Disney's feature film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” will be at the Gilda Theater in Portola this week and the Town Hall Theater in Quincy next week. See Snow White with Doc, Grumpy, Dopey, Sleepy, Happy, Bashful and Sneezy.

    Fencing located at the right of way of the new Vinton-Loyalton Road was started this week with grading to begin next week.

75 YEARS AGO.........1938

    Samuel Lear, a member of the Plumas County Board of Supervisors for the past eight years died this week. He was from San Francisco prior to relocating to Caribou in the Feather River canyon where he was the maintenance foreman with the Great Western Power Company from 1920 to 1930. He was elected supervisor from Seneca Township in 1930, taking office in 1931.

    John Redstreake won the old time snowboard race at Johnsville last Sunday. The meet, postponed twice before because of inclement weather conditions, attracted a crowd of 500 persons. The state traffic control counted 204 automobiles going to the snow area through Mohawk Sunday.

75 YEARS AGO..........1938

    Construction of the Plumas- Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative’s new electrical system will proceed this month when weather and ground conditions permit. The system will consist of 229 miles of line and will serve nearly 700 customers in the Mohawk and Sierra Valleys located in both Plumas and Sierra Counties and Honey Lake in Lassen County. The project will take approximately four months.

    Plumas County jail prisoners will be fed hereafter by the restaurants of Quincy. Mrs. McNab, who has cooked for the prisoners for the past four years, has resigned her position, so the restaurants will alternate in serving meals.

75 YEARS AGO..........1938

    The American Legion Auxiliary’s annual Easter egg hunt will be held at the old Quincy racetrack located west of Quincy High School this weekend where 60 dozen eggs will be hidden.

    A charter granted by Rotary International will be presented to the newly formed Portola Rotary Club at ceremonies held Saturday night.
