Can hunters sell game for medicinal reasons?

Q. If a person buys a hunting license and a bear tag and goes out and hunts a bear legally, then that bear belongs to that hunter.

If that hunter takes all the usable parts of the bear, then those bear parts belong to that hunter. But if the bear and all of the usable parts belong to the hunter, then why can’t the hunter sell the parts of the bear to other cultures that can use them for medicinal reasons?

The Portola High School wrestling team traveled to Redding for the Mid Valley League Championships Saturday, Feb. 12.

Competing in seven of the 14 weight classes, the Portola wrestlers placed third overall in team standings.

Portola coach Jason Klemesrud described the outcome as “a huge victory in itself.”

Klint Williams, wrestling at 160 pounds for Portola, won first place and received a league championship award.

Prior to this week’s unsettled weather, local waters were fishing quite well. Both trollers and bank anglers were having success at Almanor. Mild weather had allowed for good lake access and decent fishing. I say “decent” because the fish were somewhat scattered and cold water temperatures have the fish moving and biting more slowly than they would during warmer months. But still, the fishing was good.

The Tigers faced the Trojans on Tuesday night in a crowded andnoisyhome gym. The game was intense from the beginning, with the Trojans outscoring the Tigers 14-11 in the opening act.
