It looks like the rest of California’s community college baseball teams are facing fierce competition in the Golden Eagles once again. The Eagles started their season last weekend with three games in a tournament at Taft College and came out with two wins and one loss.

Feather River College started Jan. 31 with a doubleheader against hosting team Taft, and took it out 7-0 the first game, then lost 4-3 later in the afternoon. The next day FRC took on Imperial Valley and acquired another shutout, winning 6-0.

Two Plumas County high-school ski teams competitively hit the slopes last week. Chester’s team got in its first race of the season at Northstar California on Jan. 24 and Quincy raced at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort on Jan. 20.

Chester was scheduled to race at Boreal Ski Resort on Jan. 10, but a lack of snow forced the team to delay its season start. At the Northstar slalom races last Friday, the team did exceedingly well.

Dakota Strand stood out on his team, placing first in the boys’ ski races. On the boys’ snowboard team, Wesaly Hedrick finished second. Cody Najera finished eighth and Dustin Spradley crashed. On the girls’ snowboard team, Jessie Gannon finished 10th.

Looking for a new adventure? Try shrimping!

Shrimping

Question: I have been an avid “crabber” in Northern California for quite a while. For a new adventure I’d like to take up “shrimping” but need some information on where to go, when to go and how to catch shrimp. Is it legal to recreationally catch shrimp? If so, what are the seasons and bag limits? Is there still a viable population of shrimp in California? Thanks for any information to point me in the right direction.
